Every steel structure collapsses shortly after the fireproofing is
destroyed or heated through. The goal of fireproofing on steel is to
give time for the fire deptartment to show up and put water on the
fire.

There was no water on 9/11.


(actually, there was one hose from a fireboat in Hudson river. It was
used to cool down the spots where firemen thought there might be
survivors.)
