Saved. In doing so I realized that nearly half of my saved text quotes are

I've thought this about a mostly armed citizenry for a long time. It's all or
nothing and nothing, as you point out, can't happen.

Somewhere I read that in the well armed "wild west" the per-capita homicide rate
was considerably less than it is now. Maybe bullshit but provocative anyway. I
do know from the writings of conversation from that time, fact or fiction, that
you are absolutely right about polite. People today are way too secure in
other's ham-strung impotence. Hell, you can't even sock anyone defensively any
more other than in narrowly defined circumstances. Pre-emptive socking is very
often the best, even the only, defense.
