Hail in Wisconsin Rapids; funnel cloud in Jackson County
UNDATED (WSAU) A funnel cloud was spotted in western Wisconsin late yesterday, as parts of the Badger State endured another rough weekend of severe weather. The funnel was spotted at Alma Center in Jackson County.
Alma Center had one-inch hail – and Hatfield, Wisconsin Rapids, and Waupaca had smaller amounts. Tennis-ball-sized hail fell at Kellner, east of Rapids. Hilbert in Calumet County had 49-mile-an-hour winds.
The Wisconsin Public Service utility made good progress restoring power to around 35,000 customers who had outages in Saturday night’s storms in central and northern Wisconsin. Just over 800 were still in the dark as of 3:30 this morning. Those outages were scattered in Eagle River and Wabeno, with other outages in Antigo and Tomahawk.
Winds of up to 60-miles-an-hour blew down a tent at the Taylor County Fair on Saturday night – and trees-and-power-lines were down throughout the region.
Meanwhile, forecasters predict another warm day, with a smaller chance of rain. Highs are supposed to be in the mid-80’s to low-90’s.
