Local Student Receives South Shore Plaza Scholarship
Luke A. Leavitt, who graduated from Pembroke High School this year, will head to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences in the fall.
Along with his bookbag, laptop and likely expensive textbooks, Luke will bring a check worth $1,400 from the South Shore Plaza and Simon Youth Scholarships. Last week he received an extra-large check from mall manager Judy Tullius on the main level of the plaza.
Across the country, Simon Youth Scholarships will provide $1.15 million in grants to college students.
"The administration and staff at South Shore Plaza are proud to participate in the scholarships program with Simon Youth Foundation," marketing director Vicki Bartkiewicz said in a statement, "because the awards ignite hope in students for a successful academic future by removing some of the financial obstacles that may have prevented their continued learning."
Simon Youth Scholarships are sponsored by the Simon Youth Foundation, which was founded 1998 and sponsors 24 academies in 14 states. The academies, teamed with local public school partners, provide at-risk students with a traditional education that also has flexibility for their unique circumstances.
