Luciano: Put Thome, Pryor on Peoria's Rushmore

Jim Thome 600 home runs impress even a casual baseball fan, but implementation varies locally well beyond sports.

Think of all the famous son of Peoria and girls. Consider implementation of their lives. Mentally, for each stack up to their exploits, accomplishments and reputations.

Can you think of all the increase over the 600 home runs? It's rare air up there, breathed by some Peorians beyond Thome.

Before you all, Peoria-Freak history aficionado and the launch of e-mails in disgust and protest, let's be clear here. I'm not disparaging or degrading Peorians other notables.And I'm not saying that means less effort to the city or the world that the ability of the moon Whack-shot circuits.

But for those Peorians remarkable for their overall success in their chosen fields, almost no one reaches equivalent, the highest level of success as a Thome.

Remember, I would never advocate that Thome all around great. At third base, he boasted a full range of anchor warship, and on the base paths, he flashed the speed of it. But it does not matter because it is not paid to catch or run.

Rather, it is a hitter's Hall of Fame class.Its 600 circuits put behind him with seven other people, including three that could cheat with steroids. In addition, every at-bat, he got to No. 600 faster than anyone other than Babe Ruth.

I do not want to be too crazy numbers here. But of all time, it ranks 18th in percentage shots and 27th RBIs in. It's out of 17,000 players on over 100 years of Major League Baseball.

It's ridiculously good. And that's the point. As a slugger major league, it ranks in the ultimate level of his profession.

In this way, perhaps the only Peorian in his league is Richard Pryor.You do not need to send me letters burning: Yes, I know he said some bad words and took the wrong drugs. Understood.

Yet he was a revolutionary artist who used to laugh at race and poverty in the public eye. In 2004, the year before his death, Pryor was elected on the No. 1 Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-ups of all time. And his colleagues recognized his Heft: In the wake of Pryor, Bob Newhart deemed Pryor "the seminal comedian of the past 50 years," while Jerry Seinfeld called Pryor "The Picasso of our profession."

This is known to be on top of your game - at the top.As Thome.

Acteurs du patrimoine, universitaires, conservateurs, étudiants, membres de sociétés savantes des deux départements savoyards mais aussi des anciens États de Savoie (Nice, Pays de Vaud) se sont rencontrés et ont produit des communications originales à l’occasion du 43e congrès des sociétés savantes de Savoie, qui s’est tenu à Annecy les 11 et 12 septembre 2010, au Lycée Saint-Michel, et a rassemblé plus de 250 personnes. Pour évoquer la Savoie et ses voisins dans l’histoire de l’Europe, une grande variété de thèmes a été abordée. Certains proposent une synthèse commode sur des questions politiques ou économiques, d’autres apportent une contribution particulière et originale sur quelques aspects de la justice, de l’historiographie, de l’histoire de l’administration. Politique extérieure, relations culturelles et artistiques, vie urbaine, mouvements religieux, flux et développements économiques, phénomènes migratoires : plusieurs auteurs ont bien voulu autoriser la ballado-diffusion de leur communication qu’on retrouvera ici.

À l’heure où celle-ci a fêté les 150 ans de sa réunion à la France, ces contributions de grande qualité offrent un éclairage nouveau sur la millénaire histoire savoyarde.
