Summit Medical Holbrook Campus Planned

Holbrook area residents will soon have access to specialty health services with the planned opening of a Summit Healthcare clinic in Holbrook in September.
Summit Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Ron McArthur addressed the Holbrook City Council Tuesday evening, announcing the company’s desire to purchase a parcel of city-owned land on Navajo Blvd. to build a $1.6 million medical facility, with plans to expand in the future. The land parcel of approximately 1.6 acres is adjacent to the site of the new North Country Health Care Clinic, which is set to open on Monday.
“We envision a medical campus where we would offer specialty services to complement the primary care offerings of North Country Clinic, and maybe the development of an urgent care clinic down the road,” said McArthur.
McArthur also mentioned the possibility of locating ambulance services on the campus, as well.
The city is awaiting an appraisal of the land, which is expected to be complete this week, and will then advertise the land for sale, opening the process for bids from potential buyers.
The city is required to solicit bids for the sale of city land; it is the city’s discretion to determine what use is appropriate for the purchased land.
While the bid and sale process ensues, Summit Healthcare will rent the soon-to-be-vacated North Country Clinic at 1401 W. Florida St. They expect to be in the space 18 months to two years.
Dr. Jeff Northup, who formerly worked in Holbrook as an obstetrician, is the chief medical officer for Summit. He related that two specialists from Show Low would be at the Holbrook facility each weekday, including an orthopedist, urologist, ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist), cardiologist and obstetrician.
McArthur said the healthcare company is consulting with the same architect and contractor used to construct the new North Country clinic to ensure the two buildings would complement one another.
Summit expects to move into its temporary facilities Sept. 1.
