Police: Blakeslee man hit son with stick, fired shot

A family dispute led to the arrests of a Blakeslee father and son.

David G. Beagell, 45, of Recreation Village and his son, David R. Beagell, 20, got into a dispute at their home at 8:24 a.m. Wednesday, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

David G. Beagell allegedly hit his son in the head several times with a wooden stick and fired a .357 magnum handgun inside the home, police said.

The son also hit his father several times in the head with his fist, according to police, who said they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home.

Police arrested the elder Beagell for aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His son was taken to Pocono Medical Center and arrested for simple assault upon his release, police said.


Gas pipeline public meeting Tuesday

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staffers will hold a public meeting at the Howard Johnson hotel in Bartonsville on Tuesday to address questions about a proposed expansion of a natural gas pipeline in Ross Township.

The commission is overseeing the pipeline expansion project, which would be carried out by Oklahoma-based Williams Company.

Williams owns and operates an extensive network of gas pipelines in Pennsylvania and in other states. One area where it wants to expand its infrastructure is in Ross Township.

Work on the pipeline would begin in Ross Township at Title and Mountain roads and extend about 3.5 miles northwest, crossing Faulstick, Kunkletown and Meixell Valley roads. The work would end near the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and Laurel Drive, about two miles south of Brodheadsville.

The commission will hold the public meeting at 6 p.m. in the hotel's "Pocono Room."


Drugs, diamond ring stolen

Someone entered a Bear Swamp Road home in Middle Smithfield Township between 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 5:30 p.m. Monday and stole seven Oxycodone pills, 10 Naproxen pills and a silver diamond ring, police report. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 570-839-7701.
