&Nbsp;Where is Mr. Wiggles located in "The Popper" poster? (Include Street & City)

Southland artist, director, and author  Justin Bua  is proud to unveil his latest poster "The Popper," a painting of one of the greatest living dancers alive,  Mr. Wiggles .

"I've always considered popping to be one of the greatest dance forms of all time," explains BUA, who started popping when he was just 11. "The piece is a testament to the history and the legacy of one of the greatest dance forms the earth has ever known."

Like all of BUA's work [which are celebrations of urban culture], his latest poster is for Mr Wiggles , who BUA claims is our generation's Mikhail Baryshnikov . "But this piece is for all of the poppers out there who rep the culture raw," he adds, "like Popping Pete, Bogaloo Sam, Sugar Pop, Skeeter Rabbit, Steen, Boogaloo Shrimp, Rubber Band, Poppin’ Taco, Salah --and the list goes on and on.

The Rise and Fall of the Emergent Church Movement Part 2 | Pastor Matt

So, how did the Emergent Church Movement begin? By the mid-1990′s church leaders had noticed that young people were conspicuously absent from the church.   Typically, late teens and early twenty year olds flee church only to return once they marry and have kids but that wasn’t happening with Gen-X.  By the time the first wave of Gen-X was hitting their thirties and marrying, they were still skipping church.  Many leaders were flummoxed.

Leadership Network, a Dallas based Christian think tank, scoured the U.S. for pastors that were reaching the lost generation.  They gathered them together for a meeting in Colorado Springs in 1996.  The pastors included Mark Driscoll, Doug Pagitt, Chris Seay and Brad Cecil.  Dieter Zander, a church planter from Upland, CA, was charged with leading the meeting and argued that the reason for Gen-X’s apathy was simply a generation gap.  Brad Cecil, a young adult pastor with a penchant for reading postmodern philosophy, disagreed.  Cecil argued that the problem was a shift in thinking that was not limited to Gen-X.  Cecil took over the conversation producing what would become a legendary power point  among Emergents.

Driscoll, Seay and Pagitt agreed with Cecil.  These four young leaders would be commissioned by Leadership Network to form The Young Leader’s Network, which hosted a conference in Mt. Hermann, California in 1997.  Mark Driscoll, a church planter from Seattle, delivered a speech entitled, “The Flight from God” about the philosophical move to postmodernism.  The talk was widely circulated and earned the young leaders a lot of buzz.

Doug Pagitt, a youth minister from Minneapolis, was hired to run the Network and began searching for other postmodern Christian leaders.  He recruited Maryland minister Brian McLaren and Princeton doctoral student Tony Jones among others.

The group began speaking around the country and hosted large conferences, such as a 1998 conference in Glorietta, New Mexico, that featured theologians Stan Grenz, whose work would be very influential, and philosopher Dallas Willard, who was a leader in the spiritual disciplines movement.  Grenz encouraged pastors to embrace a more “humble” approach to truth and Willard encouraged elevating experience, such as contemplative prayer and fasting, to a level of authority on par with Scripture.  The Network became a movement that attracted young, disenfranchised evangelicals like myself like moths to a flame.
