Student Spotlight: Zoe Barton '15
Like many of the students who will be joining our campus this fall, Zoe Barton, who attended Haas Hall Academy in Fayetteville, Ark., has a wide variety of interests she plans to pursue while at Hendrix.
Academically, Barton has always been interested in herpetology, the study of snakes. She has already conducted her own snake research at Ruby Lake Wildlife Refuge in Nevada.
“I was always on of those kids who brought the creepy crawly snakes and frogs into the house,” said Barton.
The research she conducted last summer convinced her to pursue herpetology and campus visits to Hendrix convinced her that the College’s science department was right for her.
“After learning more and more about Hendrix, I realized that it really was the school for me,” said Barton.
She was excited to learn about the number of students who have a variety of interests and how the faculty encourages students to follow numerous paths.
In addition to her academic interests, Barton writes and performs her own music.
She sings and plays the guitar and piano. She even has her own YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/user/ZoeRoseMusic .
Barton is also planning on joining Hendrix ultimate Frisbee and the tennis teams.
“I'm excited to take advantage of all the awesome sports equipment and classes at Hendrix,” said Barton.
“I am excited about living on my own except I have no idea how to do laundry, so I guess that’s something I’ll be doing!” she said, exhibiting her excitement and readiness for all of the experiences Hendrix has to offer.
Rachel McLemore is a senior history major from Marion, Ark. She is a student writer in the Office of College Relations and a member of the Office of Admission’s Hendrix Experience Ambassador Team (HEAT).

OUR MISSION: "We Give a Jam” is a family event aimed at raising school supplies for Houston area schools that do not have the resources to provide their students with adequate supplies for the upcoming school year. This years event will be held at the adopted school, Zoe Learning Academy. It will be an opportunity for the community and it's children to see not only positive, but relatable role models encouraging them to better themselves by staying in school and showing what a POSITIVE impact hip-hop can have on our youth. There will be a 2 on 2 breakdancing battle, live music, dance exhibitions, community speakers, food, games, face painting and reading programs for children. This is a non-profit event to help an area school and all donations are greatly needed. Each company that donates to the "We Give a Jam/Community Outreach" will have their business advertised on the event flyer and at the event. Individual donors are also welcomed and will be acknowledged at the event.
