Baby Girl Abigail Mills Makes Her Debut

Born on July 26 at 7pm, at 7lbs, 7oz, our delicately gorgeous Abigail Mills was born and is rockin’ the triple sevens!

Her middle name is yet to be determined , and we could not be any more blissed out, in love and exhausted.

First things first. If you’ve been following my journey at all, you’ll know that amongst other things, we were hoping for a natural, hypno water-birth.

Hope is a fickle bugger, especially when its riding against the odds. Mine being the imminent possibility of back-labour.

It happened with my 1st birth and while I steered the positive course on training my mind and spirit for the chance that it would not happen again, one can’t hypnotize a herniated disc. However slight.

So. Just like with my 1st, I made it to 5cm. dilated when shazam – hello back-labour. For anyone who’s ever had the delight in this, you know it’s like cervical serges times a thousand. Not knocking those contractions, but yea. Welcome to the darker side of hell.

Anyhow, not wanting to compromise a positive birthing experience in the name of a natural birth – I made the same call as last time. Epidural. With no huge feelings of disappointment or failure.  A rarity it seems. Of which I’ll dive into with more breadth when I share this…

Birth Story?

I am so glad we documented with photos and video. Stay tuned within the next few days for the full monty. I’m talking about disclosure, not full-on visuals. For now, here she is!

Today’s Reality

That zen place new parents envision? Not so much. Our poor lad (21mo.) stayed with Gran & Pappa overnight, with plans to come and meet us at the hospital to meet his new little sister and come home all together.

As the fates would have it, he woke up vomiting and stayed as such all day. We of course wanted to be together as a family as soon as possible, knowing that our little guy needs to be with mom and dad when he’s sick and that a major change/addition had come into his life.

We felt it important to not be away from him too long. After a lengthy talk with our midwife and nurse, we were assured that wee Abby has my immunity from all the good colostrum she’s been taking in and it would be very unlikely that she get sick.

So we braved the storm and Wyndham came home, where he belongs. A round of upchucks later (all over his brand new rug I might add), and all is well(ish) in our rowdy house.

If you have a lot of cooking to do, consider which dishes can be prepared ahead. The cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and pies can usually be made ahead with no problem. The rest of the meal is best made fresh.

Sweet potatoes can be made ahead, unless you are serving them baked. Don’t make sweet potatoes in aluminum pans, it will turn them black (made that mistake once.
