On June 2, City of Charleston police made an interesting discovery along the east bound I-526 exit ramp. An unoccupied passenger vehicle was parked with its engine running and flashers on, according to the police report filed on the case. Officers found an open can of beer in the center console, ammunition for a firearm (no weapon was found), and several bottles of prescription medication. There was no sign of the driver or any other passengers.

Things did not go particularly swimmingly for a Daniel Island resident taking part in the festivities at the Charleston Duck Race on June 4. A 71 year-old woman reportedly fell while onboard a SpiritLine Cruise boat motoring just offshore as part of the event. The woman, who told rescue personnel that she lost her balance while walking up a set of deck stairs, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Two island residents reported thefts of bicycles to police between May and July. In one case, a bike was allegedly stolen while parked unsecured at the Daniel Island School between May 26 and May 27. In the second incident, the bike was taken from the Pierce Park Pool area between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4.

Island residents continue to report cases of fraudulent activity on their credit and debit bank accounts. Six new cases were documented in police reports over the last two weeks. Anyone experiencing unauthorized charges on their cards is asked to contact the Charleston office of the U.S. Secret Service at (843) 388-0305. Investigators working the cases informed The Daniel Island News last month that although the threat had been identified and eliminated, stolen numbers may continue to be used over time.

On June 13, officers were dispatched to Bounty Square Lane in Beresford Hall in reference to a stolen firearm. Upon arriving, police were told by the victim that his single-barrel shotgun was missing from a boat he operates as part of his job on Wando Creek Lane. There was no sign of forced entry on the vessel. No other items were missing.

A Center Park resident notified police on June 15 that several pieces of jewelry were missing from her residence. The items were last seen in June 2009.

So I don't care for character-y kid's stuff (Disney Princess clothes/paraphernalia, for example). I thought we'd be able to avoid the whole issue by not having cable. But, oh boy, was I wrong. Burke loves, and I mean lo-oves, Cars (and now Cars 2, too!). He knows all of the characters, randomly quotes lines from the movies, and is just generally enthralled with anything Cars related. Here's the kicker- I am totally an enabler of his Cars passion. I mean, he still doesn't have a Cars t-shirt (well, any Cars clothing, actually). But Cars stuff just delights his little heart so much, and I think it's kind of cute. Which means that, with every holiday, he collects more Cars loot. And I don't even want to think about how much Cars 2 stuff will be entering our home in the coming months. Sheesh. 4. Cut off the end of the straw to make the gas handle. Knot the end of your yarn and pull through the straw, letting the knot 'stick' in the straw. With glue dots, attach a bent paper clip on the side of the gas pump as a 'hook' for the handle. A bit below the hook, use a glue dot to attach the end of the yarn to the side of the gas pump. Cover with a button.
